Business consulting that actually changes how you operate

We work with mid-size firms across the UK to fix what slows them down: unclear strategy, tangled operations, stalled growth. Our team sits inside your business for weeks at a time, not hours.

What we do

Four practice areas, each staffed by people who have run the functions they now advise on.

Strategic planning

We build 18-month plans tied to quarterly milestones, not 50-page documents nobody opens after the offsite. Each plan identifies two or three priorities, assigns owners and sets hard deadlines. Clients review progress with us every six weeks.

Operational efficiency

We map your workflows end to end, identify where time and money leak out, then redesign processes with your team. Past engagements have cut fulfilment cycles by 30% and reduced overhead costs by £120k per year for firms turning over £5m to £25m.

Growth advisory

Expanding into a new market or launching a second product line? We model the economics, test pricing with real prospects and structure the go-to-market so your sales team can execute from day one. We stay involved through the first two quarters of launch.

Organisational design

When your headcount doubles but productivity does not, the problem is usually structure. We redesign reporting lines, role definitions and meeting rhythms so that decisions travel faster and fewer things fall between teams.

Patterns we see again and again

  • Revenue is growing but margins are shrinking
  • Senior leaders spend most of their week in status meetings
  • New hires take four months before they contribute
  • Departments set goals independently, then clash at execution
  • The board asks for a strategy and receives a budget instead

What changes after we work together

  • Pricing and cost structures are aligned to protect margin
  • A weekly operating rhythm replaces ad-hoc check-ins
  • Onboarding drops to six weeks with clear 30/60/90 day plans
  • Cross-functional OKRs force alignment before the quarter starts
  • A strategy document fits on two pages and every manager can recite it

How an engagement works

Most projects run 10 to 16 weeks. Here is the shape of a typical one.

Diagnostic

We spend two weeks inside your business: interviewing staff, reading financials, sitting in on meetings. No surveys. Real observation.

Findings brief

A 12-page document, not a slide deck, that names the three biggest constraints on performance and quantifies each one.

Joint design

Your leadership team and ours co-design solutions over a two-day workshop. We leave with an action plan that has owners and dates.

Implementation support

We embed one consultant on-site for the remaining weeks to coach managers through the changes and course-correct in real time.

The Market Edge Consulting team in discussion

A small firm on purpose

We are nine consultants. That is deliberate. Every engagement is led by a partner who has run a P&L, not delegated to a junior analyst. Our backgrounds span manufacturing, fintech, professional services and healthcare, so pattern recognition across sectors is something we bring on day one.

The firm was founded in 2012 in London. We have stayed in London because proximity to clients matters: most of our work happens on-site, not over video calls. When you ring our office, a person answers.

We do not pitch proprietary frameworks with trademarked names. We use straightforward analytical tools, plain language and a bias toward doing fewer things well.

Questions we hear often

What size of company do you typically work with?
Most of our clients have between 40 and 400 employees and turn over £3m to £50m. We have done a handful of engagements with larger firms, but our methods are built for organisations where the leadership team still knows every department by name.
How much does an engagement cost?
A 12-week engagement typically falls between £35,000 and £75,000 depending on scope and the number of consultants involved. We quote a fixed fee after the diagnostic, so there are no surprise invoices.
Do you work outside London?
Yes. About a third of our clients are based in the Midlands, the South West or Scotland. For those engagements we travel to your site for the on-site weeks and handle interim check-ins remotely.
What happens after the engagement ends?
We offer a 90-day follow-on retainer at a reduced rate for clients who want continued access to a named consultant. About 60% of clients take this option. After that, many return for a new project a year or two later.
Can you work alongside our existing advisors?
Absolutely. We regularly coordinate with accountants, legal counsel and specialist technology consultants. We are not trying to replace your trusted advisors; we fill the gap between high-level strategy and day-to-day management.
